After the success of our M32 wall painting endeavours for the Value the Caring Economy campaign in April this year, we are very excited to have booked in a slot for the People’s Republic of Stokescroft Outdoor Gallery wall for March 2025 to coincide with International Women’s Day.
The theme: Acts of Resistance, International Women’s Day
Throughout the past few months, Bristol Women’s Voice has been inviting women and people of all genders from across diverse communities to share their small acts of resistance against patriarchal gender norms.
Examples of these have been varied and include:
- ‘I educate my male friends on women’s issues’
- ‘Keep my body hair’
- ‘Refusing to move out of men’s way in the street’
- ‘Mention my female partner to the children I teach. Normalise queerness’
We would like to see these acts of resistance creatively brought to life on the 9ft high (2.8m) wall of the People’s Republic of Stokescroft Outdoor Gallery. The over-arching theme of IWD 2025 is Accelerate Action which feels fitting in this context.
The ask
We are calling on women artists in Bristol, to send us their pitches along with examples of their previous works by Sunday 17 November 2024. Your artwork will be visible in the heart of Bristol for up to a month.
You can choose to be involved in the painting or not, we will have volunteers and staff on hand for the weekend to paint the artwork. We will be promoting across social media, newsletters and the press. This is an opportunity for your art to be seen by thousands!
Please send 500 words and any supporting documents to media@bristolwomensvoice.org.uk.
Shortlisted submissions will be presented at Bristol Women’s Voice’s Winter Event on 3 December 2024 and be voted on by members and attendees.
Payment
We cannot promise any payment at this stage, but we are looking into the practicalities of setting up a Crowdfunder for this project.
