Statement re: the Women’s General Election Hustings on Women’s Economic Inequalities on 27 June 2024

Tuesday 18 June 2024

How are manifesto pledges of the four main political parties likely to impact upon women in the workplace and the economic difficulties faced by women?

Providing local voters with answers to these questions is the purpose of the General Election Hustings event on Thursday 27 June at 5:30pm at Sparks, hosted by Bristol Women’s Voice and Bristol Women in Business Charter.

Across this region, 10 political parties are campaigning with 61 candidates in total and, as we only have two hours for the event, we have requested only the four main parties (voted for in the 2019 elections) to attend to address questions in these specific areas.

This is guided by and adheres to electoral law, and we believe is the best way to address these serious issues with a particular view on the next four years.

We would like to emphasise that no-one is being no-platformed. Any candidate from the other parties with a ticket is welcome to attend and pose questions on the subject of women’s economic inequality.

Attendance is inclusive and the event is already over-subscribed.

Participants can also watch the event via Teams and although they will be unable to ask questions.

If anyone who cannot attend has questions related to women at work or economic issues, these can be emailed in advance and we will endeavour to get their questions answered: info@bristolwomensvoice.org.uk.

We do, of course, understand there are many issues facing women that deserve serious debate. However, economic inequality has consistently been the top priority that women have asked us to take action on; for this reason we have been campaigning for greater investment into the Caring Economy.

It is also the reason Bristol Women’s Voice are partnering with Bristol Women in Business Charter as their focus is on women in the workplace, and the and growing economic difficulties women face.
